Hi! My name is Romy, I am 22 years old and I am born and raised in the Netherlands. About two weeks ago I arrived in Liepaja to start my EVS project. I didn’t know what to expect from Latvia and also didn’t know a lot about EVS or the host organisation, the only thing I knew was that I was motivated to work with children together with other volunteers in a completely different setting. After three days of on-arrival training and getting to know our host organisation, mentors and other volunteers it was time to actually start working with the children. We spent a lot of time thinking about activities that are fun and appropriate for children of different ages. Thinking about activities is one thing, but actually organising them is another challenge. Most of the time kids are excited and like to run around all over the place. Sometimes language barriers make it even more difficult to get all the kids together, but in the end of the day seeing those happy little faces is really the most satisfying feeling. I am looking forward to see even more happy faces and to discover the beautiful surroundings of Liepaja. Experiencing all these new things together with fellow volunteers makes it even more fun!
